THE S.H.A.R.E. AND S.E.E.D. ACADEMY FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

Mission and Purpose
The S.H.A.R.E. and S.E.E.D. Academy for the Performing Arts began as a vision of Rev. Dr. Melvin A. Kennerly and Mrs. Emelda Johnson Kennerly, Esq., pastor and first lady of Greater Payne A.M.E. Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Their concern for children led them to the idea of Sheltering Homeless Adolescents at Risk Everywhere and to Serve, Embrace, Elevate, and Donate, thus the acronym (S.H.A.R.E. and S.E.E.D.). The Academy was founded as an initiative of the Greater Payne Community Development Center, an entity of Greater Payne AME Church located in Jacksonville, Florida and launched on June 7, 2014 in partnership with Family Support Services of North Florida, Inc. The mission of Share and Seed is to introduce, develop, enhance and refine the skills of children in foster care in the areas of vocal music, dance and drama.

The Academy serves children ages 6 - 18 assigned to the foster care system for Duval County, Florida. We provide training, exposure and performance opportunities for children who would not otherwise have them. It convenes on Saturdays year-round and holds a week-long end of summer camp. The camp concludes with a summer production that provides the opportunity for the children to demonstrate their talents and the skills they have learned. The End of Summer Production in 2014 was an adapted stage performance of “The Lion King” which was held at the Ritz Theatre, a culturally historic landmark in Jacksonville. The 2015 End of Summer Production and the 2016 End of Summer Production were stage performances of the Broadway musical “The Wiz” held at the Ritz Theatre.

The Academy is dependent on sponsors, donations and grant funding. There is no cost to the foster children to attend. For additional information, please visit our website: www.shareandseed.org.
